Jean-Baptiste Urrutia

Jean-Baptiste Urrutia, born 1901, in Les Aduldes, Basses-Pyrénées, France, dead 1979, in Montbeton, was a French missionary from Paris Foreign Missions Society who was ordained in 1925 and sent to Annam in French Indochina. He teached at An Ninh Seminary[1] where he had François-Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan as a seminarist and ordained him in 1953.

Urrutia was consecrated bishop in partibus in 1948 and apostolic vicar of Hue during the Indochina War. He retired in 1960, near Our Lady of La Vang Sanctuary and was finally expelled by the Communists in 1975.[2] He spent his last years in Montbeton, South-West of France.
